General secretary of the USCCB Monsignor Jeffrey Burrill was forced to step down due to allegations of sexual moral misconduct. The allegations included the possible use of Grindr, which is a dating App for gays.

Archbishop José Gomez, the USCCB’s president, on Tuesday released a memo saying: “it is with sadness that I inform you that Msgr. Jeffrey Burrill has resigned as General Secretary of the Conference”.

“On Monday, we became aware of impending media reports alleging possible improper behavior by Msgr. Burrill. What was shared with us did not include allegations of misconduct with minors. However, in order to avoid becoming a distraction to the operations and ongoing work of the Conference, Monsignor has resigned effective immediately,” Gomez added.

Even though there was not explicit evidence of Monsignor’s actions, The Pillar speculated that based on an analysis of app data signals, Burrill’s mobile device shows the priest also visited gay bars and private residences while using Grindr.

Monsignor Burrill has been a priest for 23 years, and served as associate General Secretary for 5 years. It is clear that the allegations are solely based on an analysis of the correlation of his cellular app data signals and not of any admission of guilt, or witnesses.
